概要：中央農労会議書記になった過程。戦前戦後の農民運動を取り巻く状況はどうなっていたでしょうか。戦前の地主制の下での小作争議の闘いから、戦後の農地改革の中での農民運動までの背景をみると、今の日本社会が見える。労農提携（共闘）はどのように起きていたのか。総評運動とはどう関わってきたのか。農業基本法制定（1961 年）に反対す運動などあまり知られていなかった労農提携（共闘）運動をあらためて分析し、その意義と今後の展望を、2回に分けて分析していきます。
