講師：山縣 大樹 （国立公文書館　公文書専門員）

　　復員組織における旧軍エリートの公職留任（Retention in the Public Service）の実態を本格的に検討する。第二復員省（旧海軍省）を事例にとり、NARA2（The National Archives in Washington）所蔵の膨大なPurge関係文書を駆使して職員の公職留任状況やGHQ内部の議論を追う。また、朝鮮戦争勃発以降、復員業務という本来の行政事務を超えた、再軍備活動に傾倒していく幹部職員の存在についても、その立ち位置を検討する。こうした作業は、復員組織内における旧軍幹部の「温存」、そして彼らの実施した再軍備活動を、直線的に捉えてきた感のあるこれまでの研究史との差別化を打ち出す契機となる。
