概要：新潟県に生まれた村山常雄は19歳で徴兵され、中国東北部で敗戦。そのままシベリアにとらわれた。４年間の捕虜生活の後、帰還して故郷で中学校教諭になったが、毎晩シベリアの夢を見続けた。70歳でシベリア抑留死亡者の正確な氏名を記録し始め、11年後に４万6000人の名簿を自費出版した。村山はなぜシベリア体験と生涯向き合ったのか。なぜ名簿を完成させられたのか。１人の人生を支配したシベリア抑留とは何かを考える。
